Light-boxes
Collaborative installation and sounding action with Cassia Streb, for Irrational Exhibits 12: Body, Materiality, and Systems, Bendix Building, Los Angeles, May 27, 2023.
Twelve sounding objects assembled from bluetooth speakers, cigar boxes, LEDs, and vellum, mounted in pairs within a stairwell between the fifth- and tenth-floor exit doors door and mid-level landings.
These cycle through a recorded hail of small particle sounds: broken bits of flowerpot, old keys, bottlecaps, lava rocks, small pebbles, and sounds recorded from a snowfall landing on sheet metal, arranged so that the sound of one material is heard on one floor, and the next floor above is barely audible at the previous.
Twice over the course of four hours, two sound-events made by rattling wooden boxes filled with similar particles.
